Scottie Scheffler will be determined to make it back-to-back victories in the 2024 PGA Tour schedule by clinching the US Open title

What to know about Scheffler

The American star became the fifth world No. 1 player to win the Masters, joining Ian Woosnam (1991), Fred Couples (1992), Tiger Woods (2001, 2002) and Dustin Johnson (2020).

Scheffler's 2022 victory at Augusta National Golf Club came two weeks after he ascended to the No. 1 spot with his win in the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, where he defeated Kevin Kisner in the final.

Latest News

The last time the Dallas, Texas-based golfer was in action was at the recent 2024 Memorial Tournament where he was in his element as he won the event for his fifth win of the season.

Therefore, Scheffler is still placed at the top of the Official World Golf Rankings and has held that ranking for over 90 weeks.

Why Scheffler is among the favourites

The 27-year-old is playing some of his best golf at the moment having won three of the last five PGA Tour tournaments he has taken part in -  clinching the Memorial, Masters Tournament and RBC Heritage titles.

Scheffler came close to winning the US Open in 2022, coming up one stroke short of champion Matt Fitzpatrick and he will now be looking to win this weekend's tournament.

Quotes

“Just because I’m the favourite doesn’t really have any affect on my score. I think we all start at even par, if I remember correctly," Scheffler said ahead of the 2024 US Open.

"It’s a good place to be. I like how my game is feeling right now. I feel like I’ve been playing some good golf. It has been great to see some results too. Out here the margins are so small between winning and losing. It’s a putt or a shot here or there.

“I’m going to stick to my game plan and prepare the way I usually would and get ready to go out and compete again on Thursday.”
